Healthy School Meal Recipe Challenge

Good nutrition is the bedrock of child survival and development. Well-nourished children are better able to grow, learn, play and participate in their communities. They are also more resilient in the face of crisis. Yet, today, many children are not getting the nutrition they need to survive and thrive. This is especially true for the poorest and most vulnerable children.

Chef James is on the hunt for Healthy School Meal Recipes to include in e-book featuring all of the students’ healthy recipe. It will be full of fabulous recipes for breakfast, lunch and snacks. If your recipe
gets included in the book, your name and the name of your school will be listed against your entry.

The goal of this Challenge is to promote the importance of a healthy school meal in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.

Materials:

  • Computer
  • Your Phone

Instructions:

Use your phone to film your own snippet no longer than 120 seconds, doing your own original recipe
and showing the ingredients.

RECIPE CHALLENGE GUIDELINES:

  • Recipe must include at least one locally-grown, caught or raised ingredient.
  • Dish must be an ORIGINAL recipe — we want your own creative and original dish.
  • Dish must be SIMPLE — maximum of 10 ingredients and 10 steps.
  • Be HEALTHY — vegetables, fruits, whole grains and/or lean proteins must make up at least half of the recipe.
  • Be DELICIOUS — keep it fresh, simple and yummy.
  • Be AFFORDABLE — no fancy ingredients needed.
  • Be MEANINGFUL — tell us the story of how you came up with your dish.
  • Optional — include Honest Farm Especias products in original recipe.
  • The meal must cost no more than $4 per serving.
  • Recipe submitted should be based on 4 servings.
  • 500-600 calories per serving.
